Continuous blood glucose monitoring reduces the risk to ICU patients

Using case data from clinical trials of the GlySure System, the study authors found that continuous glucose monitoring reduces patient risk and concluded that it is “more and more evident that continuous glucose technology will be instrumental in driving safe and effective glucose management protocols that will support more consistent glycemic management standards within ICUs and across institutions.”

Continuous monitoring of blood glucose using a fiberoptic-based intravascular sensor during postoperative care in the ICU

This 34-patient trial found that the results from the GlySure System “demonstrate a good correlation with the accepted standard of blood glucose determination in ICU practice.” The authors further concluded that, “early detection of glycemic excursions can provide carers with the opportunity for an early intervention and thus achieve the elusive target of [tight glycemic control] around the chosen target range.”

Preliminary ICU experience of a novel intravascular blood glucose sensor
